Glossary
Short definitions for the words this calculator uses. Fees and rules live on the graders’ own sites.
- PSA
- The trading-card grading company at psacard.com. You send a raw card. If it passes authentication, PSA grades it from 1 to 10 and seals it in a slab. Value Bulk, Value, Value Plus, and Value Max are paused for new submissions as of June 2, 2026.
- CGC
- Certified Guaranty Company, on the card side at cgccards.com. CGC grades cards, seals them in a slab, and publishes Bulk, Economy, Standard, Express, WalkThrough, and Unlimited Value tiers for US submissions. Bulk needs 25 cards.
- TAG
- The grading company at taggrading.com. TAG seals the card in a slab and includes images and a digital report. Higher tiers add a 1,000-point TAG Score and, on some tiers, a 360° video. The public pages checked for this site do not spell out the letters T-A-G.
- Raw
- A card that is not in a grading slab. The raw value in the calculator is what you think that loose card would sell for today, before anyone grades it.
- Slab
- The hard plastic holder a grader seals around the card after grading. The label shows the grade and an ID number. “Getting it slabbed” means sending it in to be graded and sealed.
- Grade
- The condition score on the holder. PSA and CGC use 1 to 10, with 10 as the top. TAG uses 1 to 10 and also a 10 Pristine label, plus a 1,000-point score on Standard and above. This tool does not predict the grade. You type the sale price you expect if that grade comes back.
- Declared value
- The amount you tell the grader the card is worth. It picks the service tier and the insurance cap. If you leave it blank, this calculator uses the higher of the raw price and the graded prices you entered.
